In recent years, ferrous sulfate is widely used because of its excellent performance and low price. These substances are widely used in wastewater treatment industry. Ferrous sulfate has become one of the indispensable and important water treatment chemicals in wastewater treatment industry, and it is increasing year by year. What role does ferrous sulfate play in wastewater treatment?
The flocculation process of ferrous sulfate in wastewater is the process of electrochemistry and adsorption of soluble pollutants, and precipitation into sludge after hydrolysis. The flocculation process can be divided into two parts, one is chemical flocculation, the other is physical flocculation. The hydrolysis reaction of ferrous sulfate makes the colloidal material in water produce different potential ions in water, thus losing its stability, resulting in adhesion reaction, which makes the colloidal pollutants of small particles aggregate into colloidal alum precipitation of large particles.
1. As a reducing agent: ferrous sulfate is a strong reducing agent, which can reduce hexavalent chromium from chromium wastewater containing water to trivalent chromium instead of expensive sodium sulfite, sodium bisulfite, sulfur dioxide, etc. Feed grade ferrous sulfate can effectively increase the immune function of livestock, improve the body, and make the meat quality of livestock more bright red. Feed grade ferrous sulfate can also promote growth.
2. As a flocculant: ferrous sulfate is the most widely used as a flocculant. It has the following advantages as a flocculant: fast settling speed, large sludge particles, small and dense sludge volume, good color removal effect, non-toxic and beneficial to biological growth, no need to change the original process, and low price.
3. As precipitant: it can form precipitate with sulfide and phosphate to remove sulfide and phosphate. For example, ferrous sulfate is used to treat sulfur-containing wastewater from printing and dyeing plants.
